Each lantern represents a prayer that people make, and they release these prayers into the sea, hopping that their prayers will come true. The ceremony is chosen for the closing of the Mui Wo Hung Shing Festival to symbolize peace and wholeness, and the ultimate essence of the festival to be remembered
